The currency code for the Vietnamese đồng is VND. The currency symbol used is ₫.

The first Vietnamese đồng was seen in 1946, replacing the French Indochinese piaster and was the currency for North Vietnam.

In 1953 the South Vietnamese đồng was introduced as the currency for South Vietnam. In 1978, shortly after Vietnam unified, the new đồng was introduced as the currency for Vietnam.
