The Bank of England is the central bank for the United Kingdom (UK). It was established in 1694 and is responsible for printing and issuing the national currency (the pound sterling).

Since 1997, the central bank has been in control of monetary policy.

The Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) is responsible for setting interest rate policies and meets once a month. The Monetary Policy Committee is made up of nine members.
